As industry focuses on a safe transition to net zero, hundreds of professionals from the built environment sector were surveyed to understand more about attitudes and achievements, demonstrating a continued improvement in attitudes towards net zero and carbon reduction.
The Sustainable Futures UK Report 2024 conveys the results from a comprehensive survey conducted by NBS, in association with the Sustainable Energy Association and supported by organisations such as Glenigan and RIBA.
It provides valuable insights into the priorities and perspectives of professionals in the industry, covering various aspects of sustainability such as sustainable outcomes, barriers to achieving sustainability, the role of specification and project information, and the future of sustainability policy.
Key findings from the report:
- 76% of companies are setting carbon reduction targets
- 70% of construction projects now include sustainability targets
- 13% increase in net-zero projects compared to the previous year
- 16% growth in the number of organisations measuring their carbon footprint
Dr Lee Jones, Byggfakta Group’s (NBS’ parent company) head of sustainability said:
“The construction industry’s green momentum is building, with NBS reporting a small boost in net-zero projects and environmental targets being met.
“These are welcome figures and show that, whilst much more must be done, the sector is progressively aiming for a sustainable future.”
