Daikin UK has welcomed confirmation from MCS that UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) has approved updates to the redeveloped installer Scheme, bringing air-to-air heat pumps into scope alongside other low-carbon technologies for the first time.
The approval allows MCS to progress to the next phase of implementation, supporting installer certification bodies in working towards UKAS accreditation so they can begin offering air-to-air heat pump certification to installers. Certsure (NICEIC) and NAPIT have already expressed interest in applying.
Commenting on the announcement, Hamid Salimi, Residential Product Manager at Daikin, said:
“This is a welcome turning point for the sector. Air-to-air is a flexible, efficient route to low-carbon heating, and bringing it formally into MCS gives homeowners wider choice, backed by the standards and confidence that recognition under the Scheme provides.
“We’re pleased to already be ahead of the curve here, with our Multi-split and Multi+ range listed on the MCS Product Directory. Installer certification will follow once certification bodies gain accreditation, so now is a good time for installers to start preparing. We’ll continue to keep the industry updated as implementation progresses, including on what this means for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.”
Daikin was the first company in the UK to have multi-split air-to-air heat pump products listed on the MCS Product Directory, via the Eurovent Certification route. A total of 65 residential Multi-split and Multi+ combinations are currently listed, giving installers a certified range to work with as implementation progresses.
