BEAMA releases safety-focused technical guidance

August 18, 2025

The UK’s trade association for energy infrastructure and systems, BEAMA, has released two new freely available documents, developed to support and guide the electrotechnical industry.

The first document, a new technical bulletin titled Selection of Boxes for installing electrical accessories, has been developed by the members of the BEAMA Industrial Single Phase Product Group (ISPPG) – Accessories Technical Committee.

This bulletin is intended for contractors, installers, and specifiers and provides guidance to support safe and compliant practice. It covers critical factors such as conformity with current standards, the bulletin aims to help professionals make informed decisions when selecting boxes for switches, sockets, and other similar electrical accessories.

BEAMA has also released the Consumer Unit Safety Checklist to help installers, distributors, and specifiers identify compliant, safe products and avoid the dangers of counterfeit or non-compliant equipment and second-hand goods. This checklist was developed by the BEAMA Low Voltage Distribution & Infrastructure Products Group.

Non-compliant consumer units can present serious fire and electrocution risks, as well as legal and financial consequences. This document outlines the key checks electricians should make before installation, including, product labelling and markings, legislative compliance, required technical documentation and meeting 18th Edition wiring regulation requirements.

Both documents are available completely free to download from BEAMA’s website
