NICEIC shares resources and guidance on Making Tax Digital as deadline approaches

April 2, 2026

With the Government’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements coming into force imminently, NICEIC is reminding all certified electrical contractors to make their final preparations, and ensure they are ready to comply with the new rules ahead of the 6 April 2026 deadline.

MTD for Income Tax is a new online method for reporting income to HMRC requiring digital bookkeeping with the use of compatible software. From 6 April, sole traders with a turnover above £50,000 will be required to have moved over to MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment. Those who do qualify will have to submit a quarterly summary of their income and expenses.

For further details, visit the Government’s step-by-step guidance here.

To support contractors through the transition, NICEIC has produced clear, practical guidance including a detailed blog breaking down the key changes, and a special episode of The Wire featuring experts from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and the tax and financial planning sector. They discuss compliance, software considerations, and common pitfalls to avoid.

NICEIC‑certified businesses can catch up with The Wire on-demand via the NICEIC CPD Hub
