JTL has welcomed Tessa Griffiths, joint Chief Executive of Skills England, to its London South training centre in Orpington.
Tessa took a tour of the facilities with JTL’s specialist training team, meeting second and third year apprentices in the brand new electrical and plumbing workshops. She also spoke with a Functional Skills group and an apprentice preparing for End Point Assessment, before sitting down with Chief Executive Chris Claydon and the senior leadership team to discuss how to better work together for the best possible learner outcomes.
JTL apprentices learn from experienced Tutors and Training Officers, whilst employed with local businesses, and JTL is proud to showcase its first-class facilities that support the future workforce and turn skills into careers.
Chris Claydon said:
“Having Tessa here with us in London South gave us the opportunity to ‘show’ and not just ‘tell’ how we are training the next generation of highly skilled electricians and plumbers. JTL is responding directly to employer needs; training in renewables, supporting the local and national economy, and we need support to scale up.
“Tessa Griffiths and Skills England really understood our specialist provision and what it takes to deliver from an industry-stand centre like this one, we’re looking forward to working as partners with Skills England.”
Tessa Griffiths said:
“It was excellent to visit JTL’s London South centre and see their commitment to delivering technical education alongside the personal development skills learners need for a long, stable career. The construction sector plays a critical role in driving economic growth and we recognise the unique challenges of areas like building services engineering.
“Skills England is committed to working with both providers and employers to help the sector thrive.”
London South has undergone an extensive refurbishment. It boasts industry-standard workshops, a hybrid environmental training classroom, breakout spaces and a solar array on the roof. It will be a flagship centre for JTL as it expands its capacity to meet demand.
